Inviting Ontarians to share their health stories.
Ontario Health Study and Accurate Creative collaborate on a website refresh.
The Ontario Health Study (OHS) explores the ways lifestyle, the environment and genetics affect people’s health. 225,000 adult volunteers completed detailed health questionnaires, provided biosamples and physical measurements. The study follows these participants over the course of their lifetimes and is one of Canada’s largest long-term health studies.
The OHS sought a partner to produce a refreshed corporate website. As a population research platform, the goal of this new site was to engage and retain all participants so they continue to share their health ‘story’ with OHS over their lifetime.
Participants use the site to see what’s new with the Study or to complete new questionnaires. Researchers use the OHS site data to conduct research into cancer and chronic diseases.
Our strategy focused on channelling the two distinct audiences quickly into content that is relevant to them. As well, we wanted to provide new visitors to the site with an overview of the content mix in a way that quickly demonstrated its value to researchers and Ontarians as a whole.
We started with a redesigned home page that provides direct access to content streams relevant to each audience. Donor participants are directed to subject matter that updates them on how their contributions are being used by the research community. Researchers are directed to content that updates them on the latest resources or findings within their community. The site also provides data access within a secure platform for research purposes. A mix of data visualization techniques, video, and intuitive design elements create an engaging and intuitive new presentation.

The new user experience offers visitors a more intuitive and efficient path to content compared. Enhanced security features ensure data on the site is protected yet easily accessible by those with the proper credentials.
