“Share the Path” awareness campaign
Canada’s Capital Region is home to the Capital Pathway network, one of the largest in North America. More than 600 kilometres of multi-use paths, managed by the National Capital Commission (NCC), link the region’s natural areas, parks, gardens, museums and attractions in Ottawa, Ontario and Gatineau, Quebec. Most of the pathway is paved, and allows an almost continuous route through the National Capital Region. The first section built was the ‘Ottawa River Pathway’ in the early 1970s.
The Capital Pathway is also known informally as the ‘Bike Path’, and therein lies the problem. A multi-media awareness campaign aimed at users of Ottawa’s Capital Pathway network was needed to make it known that the pathway is for all to enjoy—not just cyclists. Continued issues between citizens on the use of the pathway were arising on a regular basis.
NCC hired Accurate Creative to collaborate with their communications team on a multimedia campaign designed to encourage people to respect all users of the pathways and to follow a few simple ground rules.
The ‘Share the Path’ campaign included a signature video, which was scripted, produced, and shot locally by Accurate Creative featuring local actors to demonstrate how to respect others using the pathways. Using drones and animations, the video demonstrates how to use the path politely. A wide range of supporting marketing products were also created.
